| India asks Pak to vacate PoJK, rips into OIC for echoing Islamabad’s script | | | Muskan Thakur Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 19: India on Monday delivered a sharp rebuke to the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), declaring that the only unresolved matters concerning Jammu and Kashmir are Pakistan vacating the territories it holds under illegal and forcible occupation and ending its support for cross-border terrorism. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) condemned the anti-India references in resolutions adopted at the OIC’s Council of Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Baghdad on October 17-18, including remarks on Jammu and Kashmir and insinuations about Islamophobia. It accused Pakistan of orchestrating them. The 57-member bloc, which counts India’s neighbours Pakistan and Bangladesh and West Asian heavyweights such as Saudi Arabia and the UAE among its members, has revived the Kashmir issue barely a month after its contact group reaffirmed support for what it called the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination. The MEA categorically rejected the references as “malicious, biased, and false” and charged that the OIC had allowed itself to be “misused by Pakistan for its bigoted agenda.” It also dismissed the bloc’s comments on Jammu and Kashmir and other internal matters, asserting that the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are “integral and inalienable parts of India.” Pointing to ground realities, the MEA said Jammu and Kashmir has seen significant economic growth since the abrogation of Article 370, with infrastructure development, tourism and improved connectivity delivering benefits directly to the people. Turning the spotlight on Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, India accused Islamabad of unleashing “violence, repression and brutality” on civilian protesters, killing scores of people, including women and children. It said that a media blackout had failed to conceal the alleged human rights violations. “The only issues related to Jammu and Kashmir that remain to be addressed are Pakistan vacating from areas under its illegal and forcible occupation and ceasing its continued support to cross-border terrorism,” the MEA said. The MEA also dismissed the fabricated and hostile references to India, including the Islamophobia insinuations, as a desperate bid by Pakistan to divert global attention from its own record of minority persecution, sectarian violence, governance failure and political instability. Questioning the OIC’s credibility and integrity, India said the organisation had repeatedly endorsed propaganda and narratives pushed by Pakistan. “We hope its members would do better and reform this organisation,” the MEA said. |
