Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 19: The Jammu region has immense tourism potential, but several beautiful destinations, including Mansar, Surinsar, Patnitop, Bhaderwah, Kishtwar and the Seven Lakes of Poonch, have yet to receive the level of development and promotion they deserve. The J&K Government and the Central Government should give special attention to improving road connectivity, tourist facilities, accommodation, sanitation, basic infrastructure and publicity to develop these destinations and make them more attractive to visitors. To popularise Jammu and Kashmir tourism across the country, roadshows, tourism seminars, travel and tourism exhibitions, and special promotional campaigns should be organised in major cities. Destinations in the Jammu region should be showcased in Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Chandigarh, Lucknow, Kolkata and other important cities in collaboration with tourism departments, the hotel industry, travel agents and trade organisations. Tour operators and travel companies should also be encouraged to introduce special tourism packages for Jammu and Kashmir. The development and nationwide promotion of these destinations will help increase tourist arrivals and extend visitors' stays, providing a significant boost to Jammu's trade, hotels, restaurants, transport services and handicraft industry. It will also create new employment opportunities for local youth. I urge the Central Government and the J&K Administration to ensure adequate funding, a time-bound action plan and effective implementation for tourism development in the Jammu region. Better coordination between the Tourism Department and trade organisations is essential to launch a comprehensive national promotional campaign and secure Jammu's rightful place on India's tourism map. The planned development and nationwide promotion of Jammu's tourist destinations will strengthen the regional economy, generate employment and create new opportunities for the trade and hospitality sectors. |
