Atul Sharma Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 24: For over two decades, patients at a Primary Health Centre in the border town of Arnia were treated by a man who, according to investigators, never even cleared Class 10. The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch Jammu has now exposed a shocking case of forgery. Sohan Lal Singh, an eighth-pass, allegedly secured a government job as a Dental Assistant on a fake matriculation certificate and kept it for nearly 20 years. Only after this long stretch did the authorities wake up and begin verifying his credentials. The agency has filed a chargesheet before the court of the 4th Additional Munsiff, Jammu, against Sohan Lal Singh and his father, Veer Singh, who has since died. The case is registered as FIR No. 55/2025 under Sections 420, 465, 467, 468, 471 and 120-B of the RPC at Police Station Crime Branch (EOW), Jammu. The case began with a communication from CID Headquarters, J&K, which flagged that Sohan Lal Singh had been serving at PHC Arnia for almost two decades on a matriculation certificate purportedly issued in Bihar or Uttar Pradesh. When the certificate was finally verified, the mark sheet and certificate turned out to be fake. The probe, led by Dy.SP Vishal Sharma, found that the accused had studied only up to Class 8 and never passed Class 10 through any school. The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), Jammu, confirmed erasures and chemical alterations on the mark sheet, while school records showed discrepancies in his date of birth. Statements and evidence reportedly show that Veer Singh, a driver in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, procured the forged credentials for his then-minor son. After reaching adulthood, the son allegedly used the falsified records to complete Dental Assistant training and secure an appointment through the J&K Service Selection Board. With this evidence, Crime Branch says offences under Sections 420, 465, 467, 468, 471 and 120-B RPC are established against both accused, and the matter now goes to court for judicial determination. The SSP, Crime Branch EOW Jammu, has urged the public to stay vigilant against such economic frauds. Victims can report incidents by email at [email protected] or by calling 0191-2578901. |
