Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 31: Despite the Congress high command’s efforts to broker a truce between two warring factions in the Jammu and Kashmir unit, dissidents within the party remain unwilling to work collectively with the official leadership headed by JKPCC president Tariq Hamid Karra.
At a time when the Congress high command has launched a nationwide campaign against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, the factional divide within the J&K Congress has once again come to the fore, with dissident leaders and workers choosing to operate independently rather than rally behind Karra.
On Saturday, a large number of Congress workers left for Delhi to participate in the party’s proposed rally scheduled for November 1 at Ramlila Maidan. However, dissident groups reportedly made their own arrangements, including buses and other modes of transportation, to reach the national capital instead of travelling under the leadership or directions of JKPCC chief Tariq Hamid Karra.
Sources said the dissident groups had decided to mobilise the maximum possible number of workers for the Delhi rally but were unwilling to travel under Karra’s leadership, reflecting the continuing lack of trust between the rival camps.
As reported earlier, the Congress high command had brokered a truce between the two rival factions of the JKPCC in July this year in an attempt to end the prolonged internal discord.
The party leadership had intervened after differences between the two camps persisted for an extended period, prompting senior Congress leaders to initiate efforts to bring the rival factions to the negotiating table.
AICC General Secretary (Organisation) K.C. Venugopal played a key role in facilitating the reconciliation process during a meeting held in New Delhi. The meeting was also attended by AICC General Secretary in-charge of Jammu and Kashmir, Dr Syed Naseer Hussain, AICC secretaries, and other senior Congress leaders from the Union Territory.
Following the meeting, both factions appeared to tone down their public confrontation, raising hopes that the internal differences would eventually be resolved through dialogue. However, the latest developments suggest that the truce has failed to bridge the organisational divide, with dissidents continuing to maintain their separate identity and unwillingness to work under the official JKPCC leadership.
