New Delhi, Aug 4: Hitting out at Pakistan for declaring slain Hizb commander Burhan Wani a martyr, Union home minister Rajnath Singh said on Thursday that "there should be no glorification or eulogising of militants as martyrs."
"There are no good militants or bad militants," Rajnath Singh said while addressing the SAARC home ministers' meet in Islamabad. "There should be strongest of action not only against militants but also against organisations, individuals and nations who support violence," Singh said.
Singh called for isolation of those countries which have become safe heaven for militants "Those who provide support, encouragement, give sanctuary and safe heaven and assistance to militancy must be isolated," he said.
Pakistan had declared Hizb commandr Burhan Wani a martyr and observed a black day against his killing.
Meanwhile Singh's speech was not aired by Pakistan's state-run PTV, which was the only media allowed to cover the conference. Indian media was kept away from the Home Minister, leading to a clash between the officials on both sides.
In a terse message to Pakistan, India today said there should be no glorification of terrorists as martyrs and also called for "strongest nation" against nations supporting terrorism.
Without mincing any words, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, who is here to attend the seventh meeting of the Interior/Home Ministers Conference of SAARC countries here, said mere condemnation of terrorism and terrorists is not enough.
The Home Minister also said there should be "strongest action" not only against terrorists or organisations but also against those individuals, organisations and nations who support terrorism.
Not only did Sharif praise Wani but he also remarked that "Kashmir will one day become Pakistan", a comment which evoked a sharp reaction from External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, who said his dream of the state becoming a part of his country "will not be realised even at the end of eternity.
Meanwhile in Islamabad, an Interior Ministry official also said that there was no such blackout of Rajnath's speech as none of the speeches of participating ministers was shown.
"It is true that his (Rajnath's) speech was not shown live because (the) speech(es) of none of the participating ministers was shown live by the state media."
He said only the inaugural session was shown live when Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan made welcome speeches.
The official said Singh was not discriminated at all by the state media and he was given full official protocol.
