‘People of Jammu and Ladakh are not Kashmiris’ | Bitter Truth | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 4: Kashmiri leadership and Pakistan term all the people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh Kashmiris. It is understandable because they want to delinks the entire state from India and establish their Pakistan-like regime. But it is not understandable by the Indian political class and our Delhi-based opinion-makers, think tanks and trouble shooters insult the people of Jammu province and Ladakh region Kashmiris and give the international community to understand that Kashmir means Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh State and Kashmiri people means all those who inhabit the state. It's time to set the record straight and tell Indian political class and our opinion leaders that all those who inhabit Jammu and Kashmir are not Kashmiris and that even all those who inhabit Kashmir are not ethnically Kashmiris. Those who inhabit Jammu province are called Dogras and the inhabit the land between Lakhanpur and Pir Panjal. Leave aside some Kashmiris, who migrated to Jammu province centuries ago due to political turmoil and other local factors. They have nothing in common with the Kashmiri people. Their life is different; their culture is different; their ethnicity is different and their political perceptions and approach to India is different. They are ardent Indians, besides being the proud Dogras. The scene of Ladakh is no different. The people of this region, like the people of Jammu province, are not ethnically Kashmiris. They are mostly Monolite and their political perceptions and approach towards India is similar to that of the people of Jammu province. The scene of Ladakh is no different. The people of this region, like the people of Jammu province, are not ethnically Kashmiris. They are mostly Monolite and their political perceptions and approach towards India is similar to that of the people of Jammu province. Within Kashmir, there are multiple religious and ethnic groups who are not Kashmiri. For example, Gujjars and Bakerwals and Pathowari-speaking Muslims. Even Syed Ali Shah Geelani had a couple of years ago addressed a press conference in Srinagar to tell the Gujjars that "they were not Muslims". Your Early Times reported it and wrote on it. And what about the internally-displaced Kashmiri Hindus? Do they support the ongoing separatist movement in the Valley? Far from it. They are bitterly opposed to it and bat for the creation of separate homeland in the Valley invested with UT status. These are some of the stark realities. The Indian political class and our opinion makers would do well to appreciate them. They are well advised to stop calling the people of Jammu and Ladakh Kashmiris. Such an approach would help New Delhi work out a political scheme that suits the nation and all in the state and that doesn't consider one region and one particular group of people the only factors in the state. |
