500 monks, nuns on mission to reach Jammu tomorrow on cycles | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 4: With a mission to combat gender stereotypes and promote collaborative action for the environment, Ladakh-based Drukpa nuns and monks will be reaching here on cycles. The cycle rally was flagged off from Nepal and will head towards Ladakh. Around 500 monks and nuns led by Gyalwang Drukpa of Ladakh-based Drukpa Order are participating in the cycle rally which transverse through arduous routes in the Himalayas. The Drukpa Order, which has come to be known for its insistence on gender equality and celebration of diversity, regularly organises such events to highlight issues of global significance. "The Cycle Yatra, commenced from Kathmandu (Nepal) on July 3 from one of the monasteries of the Drukpa lineage, has become an annual feature of the order's efforts to promote awareness about the environmental crises confronting the region and inspire collaborative action to resolve it," said an official. He said that Gyalwang Drukpa - the spiritual head of the 1000-year-old Drukpa Order based in the Himalayas will hold a brief session on arrival here tomorrow afternoon about the mission of Cycle yatra. |
