Mysterious death of teen sparks protest in Kotranka

Rajouri, Aug 4: Inhabitants and shopkeepers of Kotranka town today blocked Rajouri-Budhal-Reasi road for more than 5 hours alleging that a teenage girl from the town was first raped and then thrown into the river (murdered) but the police in nexus with health officials trying to save the accused and has started inquest proceedings under section 174CrPC.
Protestors also rejected the postmortem conducted at Kotranka Hospital and the initial report that the body doesn't bear any visible mark of sexual assault or rape.
Family members demanded autopsy being conducted by a team of doctors from District Hospital including a lady doctor and continued their protest in favor of their demands including visit of SSP.
According to parents, "Anju was reading till 11.30 pm in her room and after that what had happened with her they don't know."
Family members also said that parents of the deceased had reached the spot first where the body was found at about 4.30am and added they informed a policeman who lives in their neighborhood who later informed the local police.
"After information provided by the policeman we rushed to the spot and after legal formalities brought the body to hospital for further investigation and postmortem" said Mohd Jahangir, SHO, Kotranka police station.
Meanwhile Dr Mehmood Bajad, BMO, Kotranka said, "The demand of re-postmortem was discussed with the Chief Medical officer and on his direction a team of two doctors was rushed to Kotranka hospital including Dr Rakia and Dr Javed."
Meanwhile sources said that re-postmortem conducted by the two doctors found some visible injury marks on the head and back of the deceased's body identified as Anju Bala d/o Jeet Singh resident of village Jaglanoo.
"As the hospital at Kotranka doesn't have X-Ray facility , both the doctors decided to take the body to district hospital and at about 4 pm they left for Rajouri" said Basharat , a local resident.
Thereafter at District Hospital (DH) Rajouri, the doctors conducted CT Scan of the body and after completion of other legal formalities the body was handed over to the family but it refused to claim body to home alleging the deceased was first raped and then murdered.
Meantime local Bajrang Dal and VHP activists including Minta Sawhney joined the family members and demanded the arrest of the accused(s) and to register murder case against him/them instead conducting inquest proceedings under section 174CrPC.
Taheer Salim Khan, ASP and Ch Hamid Choudhry DySP (Hqrs) rushed to the hospital and pacified the protestors by assuring a fair and transparent probe into their allegations.
