Chhari Mubarak reaches cave shrine, 48-day long Amarnath yatra concludes

Srinagar, Aug 18: "Chhari Mubarak", the holy silver mace of Lord Shiva today entered the holy cave shrine of Amarnath in south Kashmir Himalyas on the concluding day of the 48-day-long pilgrimage on Shravan Purnima, Raksha Bandan. More than 2.20 lakh pilgrims from all over the country had darshan of the self made Ice-Shivlingam in the cave shrine since July 2, from both traditional Pahalgam and shortest Baltal tracks. Led by Mahant Deependra Giri, the ''Chhari Mubarak,'' one depicting Lord Shiva and another Goddess Parvati, started final journey this morning from Panjterni (3657 metre) and reached the holy shrine here. A large number of Sadhus and other pilgrims accompanied the holy mace, chanting " Bam Bam Bolay, Har Har Mahadev'' and singing other devoational songs. The holy mace had arrived at Panjterni yesterday from Sheshnag. Deepender Giri led the traditional rituals and prayers at holy cave which will continue today. However,before dusk, Chhari-Mubarak shall leave for night halt at Panchtarani from where it will have another night halt at Pahalagam.
''Pujan and Visarjan'' ceremonies shall be performed on the bank of river Lidder at Pahalgam which will be followed by traditional ''Kadi-Pakoda'' bhandara shall be organised for saints.
With this last ritual, annual pilgrimage of Swami Amarnath culminated and ''Chhari-Mubarak'' shall return to its abode at Srinagar.
This year over 2.20 lakh pilgrims, lowest in about a decade, from different parts of the country visited the cave shrine to have the glimpse of the self made Ice-Shivlingam.
Majority of the pilgrims have since returned to their homes though initially some visited a number of tourist places.
Meanwhile, an official spokesman said on the 47th day of Yatra yesterday, 104 Yatris paid obeisance at the holy cave. With this a total of 2,20,399 Yatris had darshan at the holy cave.
