Ask people to continue protests, even without calendars
Militants challenge Hurriyat writ

Early Times Report

Srinagar, Aug 18: The Militants in Kashmir have now openly challenged the separatists especially the Hurriyat hawk Syed Ali Geelani in a new video statement- asking people to continue their protests even if the hurriyat leaders issue protests calendars or not.
A former engineering student, who opted out of the college to join militant ranks, has appeared in a latest militant video, replacing slain militant commander Burhan Wani as the new face of Kashmir's insurgency. Zakir, alias Musa, appeared in an eight-minute video in which he spoke about a series of issues, including the killing of Burhan and two other militants on July 8 evening last month that sparked an unrest across the Valley. "We are thankful to all Kashmiris, (those) who gave their lives, and supported the Islamic movement," Zakir said in a video statement. What has rendered the separatist groups, who claim monopoly over strikes and protests, in Kashmir discredited in the open declaration of militants, saying that the protests must continue even if the separatists call off the present unrest. "You should continue protests and shutdowns. No matter who calls off the shutdown, you should not allow it because we only follow Allah and no one else," the new Hizb commander said. Now when the separatists especially the pro-Pak Geelani has been pitching for the dialogue with them- declaring that they only "represent the peoples' sentiments in valley" , the new militant video has pricked their claims. Earlier, there used to be a synergy between the militant groups operation in valley and the separatists and in normal course of action, militants would often ask people to follow the calls of the separatist leaders. This has happened for the first time that the militants, out in open, have taken the reins of the present unrest in their own hands while rendering the separatist groups baseless and pseudo. Furthermore, what separatists have so far been preaching on ground was the resolution of Kashmir issue as per the wishes and aspirations of the people here. They would also press sometimes press for the implementation of UN resolutions and resumption of the dialogue process. However, for the first time, the militant video received after the killing of Hizb commander Burhan Wani, it has been declared that the present struggle is for the establishment of the Islamic rule in Kashmir. They have termed the ongoing unrest in Kashmir as an Islamic Movement and have desisted from calling it as peoples' movement for the fulfilment of their political aspirations. Now, when the separatists have been issuing the protest calendars asking people sometimes to paint walls with pro-Azadi slogans and sometimes asking them to send letters to Pro-India politicians, their authority has now been unmasked by none other than the militants themselves who have subtly asked people to defy the separatists if stop giving protest calls. The monopoly seems to be treading towards its dreadful end and this time it seems to be for the worst.
