Early Times Report

RAMBAN, Nov 23: To defy the terms and conditions agreed upon by the companies with respect to construction works of prestigious four lane project on Jammu to Srinagar from the stretch of Pantiop to Banihal.
Besides worsening the condition of existing National Highway (NH) they are dumping the muck on the bank of river Chenab and other rivulets which is indirectly an attempt to polluting the water bodies and defying the norms being prescribed by the environment department for sustainable development and preservation of ecological balance.
It is pertinent to mention that there were number of visits conducted by the concerned ministers and bureaucrats for strict adherence of norms of agreements, but picture on ground is totally opposite.
Sources said that most of the dumping sites have been created by the companies on the banks of rivers resulting in gradually erosion and mixing of dumped muck in water bodies which continuously polluting the natural water resources and is a big threat for existence of rivers adding that it is an issue of great concern that picture on ground is totally reciprocal of the statement as the companies still dumped the muck on the bank of rivers and nallahs.
Dilapidated condition of NH caused terrific traffic jam frequently adding troubles to the passengers and tourists visiting on the NH. Many times people complaint to the higher authorities but still nothing has been done from the administration side.
Sources further said that other construction works which are going on in the district are making frequent dumping of waste material according to their suitability, neglecting the difficulties being faced by the people, which is also a cause of concern. Enforcement agencies are playing role of mute spectator forgetting their duties and responsibilities.
When contacted Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ramban, Mohammad Aijaz said that directions have been passed to concern authorities for ensuring that dumping of muck in only identified dumping yards and no new information yet to receive by this office about the violation of directions.
