Villagers suffer as officials violate NRHM guidelines on paramedic postings

Early Times Report
reasi, Nov 23: In brazen violation of the central government guidelines for execution of the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) in the state, the health officials here have been resorting to alleged favoritism by illegally attaching "influential" paramedics like nurses at places other than their place of posting.
Officials said even though the Health department last year issued formal orders banning any attachment under the NRHM, the Chief Medical Officer CMO Reasi and Block Medical Officer BMO Pouni have been allegedly resorting to attachments just to keep their "political bosses happy."
Official sources said in one such case a nurse posted at Sanged Ransoo has been posted at the PHC Barak instead, only because of the political influence she enjoys.
The official sources said in Arnas area of the district some nurses have been attached. Kundkhandya area also faces the same problem, they said.
Sources said most of the nurses who were supposed to work in remote areas have been attached and convenient postings due to political influence.
Aggrieved villagers from remote areas said the people there suffer in the absence of the paramedic staff.
Sarpanch Soran Singh who heads Sangar said given the problems faced by the people he gave multiple representations to the concerned CMO and BMO.
"We called them at their offices, requesting them not to deprive our PHCs of staff as area people are literally dying unheard but our pleas fell on deaf ears," the Sarpanch told Early Times.
When contacted a senior official in the Health Department said the problem has come to his notice. "We are well aware of the problems being faced by the people in remote areas but the officials who are resorting to such attachments are in direct contact with the health minister," the official told Early Times.
Despite repeated attempts, the minister could not be contacted for comments.
