| Residents of Barnoti stage protest against PHE | | |  Early Times Report
Kathua, Feb 14: Residents of Barnoti held protest demonstration and disrupted traffic on NH road while people from Barnoti area blocked Jammu-Pathankot National Highway near Kathua and disrupted movement of traffic in protest against the water crisis today.
They were protesting against the acute water shortage in the area due to failure of local pumping station. The people alleged that PHE Mechanical wing Kathua failed to replace motor or get it repaired. They said that people were facing lot of hardships due to water shortage. Even the tanker supply has not been ensured, they maintained.
The villagers alleged that in last three weeks, the pump and motor at the local pumping/ tube well station at Barnoti went out of order seven times and hardly two or three times in last 21 days, the water supply was provided by the department. They said that every now and then the motor goes out of order. No alternate arrangement of water supply through tankers is provided to the public in this Kandi belt. Nobody listens and even the Tehsil and district administration has shut its eyes. The people have been forced to come out on the road to protest for water.
DSP Kathua, SHO Kathua, and PHE Exen Mechanical wing Kathua later rushed to the spot. They persuaded the villagers to lift `dharna' and allow traffic movement. |
