Selection of candidates by BJP for Upper House draws a hornet's nest | | | Early Times Report
jammu, Feb 17: The selection of candidates by BJP for Legislative Council elections has drawn a hornet's nest with some senior functionaries who were strong contenders for five Rajya Sabha seats to be contested by the Party from State expressing their total resentment over the High Command's decision. According to sources, some senior BJP leaders whose names did not figure in the list have shown their resentment against the decision. Sources said that some aspirants who surrendered to Party decision of not fielding them in the Assembly elections with the hope of getting elected to Upper House later feel betrayed after their names did not figure in the five member list finalized by the Party High Command in Union Capital today. Sources said that some of the Party men conveyed their decision to Party High Command expressing their total displeasure over the decision saying that they feel betrayed and cheated. Taking the issue with the senior Party leaders after the announcement of the list soon this afternoon these leaders also criticised the Party of not considering any candidate from reserved categories and this was a cause of concern for them. Sources said that these leaders have conveyed the High Command that by ignoring the deserving and hardliner activists of the Party who have served it with total loyalty for decades together the Party has done a great disservice to their loyalty. Sources said that BJP leaders alleged that no criteria was fixed for making the selection of candidates both in Assembly elections and in Upper House poll with the result the senior functionaries of the Party feel totally dejected and neglected. Sources said such a negative attitude of the Party leadership towards the deserving and senior functionaries will distance the organisation from masses. BJP today announced five candidates for Upper House the elections to which are to be held on March 2. They included Sonam Dorjay from Ladakh, Sofi Mohammed Yusuf from Kashmir, Vivod Gupta, Ramesh Arora and Charanjit Singh Khalsa from Jammu. The other members in the penal were senior BJP leaders Ashok Khajuria, Chander Mohan Sharma, Satish Sharma, Yudhvir Sethi, Bushan Khajuria and Dr Darkshan Andharabi. But their were not considered. Earlier Party High Command had returned the list to the State with the remark of getting the same reviewed in State Election Committee which after reviewing the same included some more names in it and submitted to High Command. |
