JKNPP has no right to oppose BJP-PDP alliance | Dual approach | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 1: JAMMU, Mar 1: The Jammu & Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) chief patron Bhim Singh has accused the BJP of "selling out the interests of Dogras" of Jammu province by forging an alliance with PDP and gone to the extent of urging the people of Jammu to observe March 1 as black Day". "The day the PDP-BJP take oath on March 1 shall be remembered as Black Sunday in the history of Jammu," he has said and added that the alliance between PDP and BJP is patently anti-Jammu. Another JKNPP leader has also expressed similar views. Opposing the alliance, he on Saturday charged the BJP with compromising the interests of people of Jammu province by forging an alliance with PDP. "It is shocking that an alliance between BJP and PDP has been finalized on an agenda which seems to be betrayal of people of Jammu. A fraud is being perpetrated in which everything that the people of Jammu hold sacrosanct is being hostaged to PDP which has been advocating shared sovereignty and joint-management of Jammu & Kashmir with Pakistan," he said, adding that the people of Jammu province should observe bandh on Sunday. He, like Bhim Singh, said many things against PDP and BJP and the upshot of their whole argument was that the alliance was not only against the people of Jammu province but also against the national interest. Do they have the moral right to oppose the BJP-PDP alliance? They don't have. It needs to be underlined that JKNPP was also a part of the coalition government that was headed by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed from November 2, 2002 to November 2, 2005. Not only this, two of its three MLAs were ministers in the Mufti-led coalition government of which Congress, CPI-M and Kashmir-based People's Democratic Forum were also part. The fact of the matter is that JKNPP leadership had maintained very good relations with PDP leadership, including Mufti. How could a party that worked with PDP for no less than three years oppose PDP's association with BJP? It may appear unbelievable but it is a fact that Bhim had on April 24, 2007 also opposed the BJP delegates to the third round table conference at the official residence of then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and said: "Mufti Saheb, aap aagey bhado, hum aap ke saath hain; Azad Saheb, aap aagey bhado, hum aap ke saath hain; Farooq Saheb, aap aagey bhado, hum aap ke saath hain". Mufti, Ghulam Nabi Azad, then J&K Chief Minister, and Farooq Abdullah were also delegates to the third round table conference and Bhim had assured and reassured the fullest possible support to the Mufti, Azad and Abdullah in the presence of over 30 other delegates and he had extended the support while opposing the BJP delegates who had opposed the resolution moved by then Home Minister Shivraj Patil on Jammu & Kashmir. Significantly, Mangat Ram Sharma had supported Bhim, and Abdullah had ridiculed him. All this shows that the JKNPP has two yardsticks, one for the BJP and another for the Panthers Party. It is no wonder then that the Panthers Party has lost its credibility and the people abandoned it during the last assembly elections. The JKNPP, which had three MLAs in the last assembly, could not win a single seat this time. Even Harsh whose performance in the assembly was satisfactory could not save his seat. |
