'Man who married a dumb wife' staged in Natrang Theatre Festival | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 30 : On the fourth day of ongoing Natrang Theatre Festival-2015, Natrang presented 'Man who married a dumb wife'- a hilarious comedy which is an adaptation of a French Folk drama by Anatole France. The play has been adapted and directed by Aarushi Thakur. The play uses 'Character Comedy' to derive humour from a persona invented during the play making progress. The story of the play revolves around a rich young boy who has a large, fanciful house and a special servant to look after him. He enjoys the life of luxury. He is also selfish and spoiled and on top of all that he has an over possessive girlfriend. She is not only obsessive but also paranoid and irritates him by calling him umpteenth number of times. He decides to break his relationship and decides to settle down for a girl who talks less. He meets various girls for marriage but all in vein. Finally a man comes with a proposal of his daughter, she has all the qualities of a prefect girl but just lacks one quality that she is dumb. The use of the word dumb in this context is not an insult on intelligence, but demonstrates the fact that the wife does not have the ability to speak. Seeing the situation, the boy Rohan decides to marry her because she is exactly the kind of girl he wanted. She doesn't talk, that means she would never fight or irritate him. He quickly notices that the advantages that he thought he would receive after his marriage would not be coming so easily. He no longer can overlook his wife's inability to talk. This drives him to frustration, an emotion that he does not commonly feel. He realizes that he got married in haste not realizing that communication is a vital part of a marriage. After weeks he realises his fault and decides to take her to a doctor. The doctor cures her of her ailment and she can speak. Now that she can speak, she talks so much that the husband is annoyed to an extent that he decides to go to the doctor to fix the problem. Finding no solution to the problem, he decides to go deaf. |
