Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 30: Expressing concerns over rising water level and flash floods in the Poonch district due to incessant rains for the past forty eight hours, the former Member Legislative Assembly and Senior National Conference leader Ajaz Jan today urged the district administration to impress all the resources to meet the challenge.
"Situation is alarming, as the rains are continuing and the water level in various areas, Nalluhs and streams is rising", Jan said while interacting with the media at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhavan here this afternoon.
Giving details of the damages caused by floods, he said six families have already moved from Chambar Kanari Panchayat, Chandak and Poonch City and many areas too are also under threat of flash floods. Former MLA, Jan urged the administration to show urgency in meeting the situation and take all necessary steps to save the human lives. He said the rains have already caused enormous damage to property and crops in Mandhi and Poonch blocks and reports were pouring in about people moving out of their homes to take shelter at safer places. The former MLA asked the administration to formulate an exigency plan to meet the situation in case it worsens. Jan expressed his gratitude to Provincial President National Conference Jammu Devender Singh Rana for appreciating the enormity of the situation and raising the issue in the Legislative Assembly.
Recalling the prompt measures taken by the former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah during September 2014 floods, Jan regretted over neglecting the Poonch area this year.
Prominent those present in this press conference include State Vice Presidents, Rattan Lal Gupta and Thakur Kashmira Singh besides Sheikh Bashir Ahmed, Jugal Mahajan, Pradeep Bali, Sajjad Shaheen, Anil Dhar, District President Rajouri Bashir Ahmed Wani.
