China's massive aid to Pakistan is India's worry | | | Pakistan has reason for adopting tough postures in dealing with India.Since Pakistan has remained totally dependent on Chinese military and non-military aid Islamabad has not missed any occasion for needling India. And the latest massive Chinese help is in the form of 46 billion dollar aid for reviving its energy generation and infrastructure development. And when the Chinese President XI Jinping arrived in Islamabadon Monday it was to herald a landmark agreement for an economic corridor worth USD 46 billion that will stabilise Pakistan's cash-strapped economy and expand the Communist giant's influence in India's neighbourhood. The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) will link China's underdeveloped far-western region to Pakistan's Gwadar deep-sea port on the Arabian Sea via PoK through a massive and complex network of roads, railways, business zones, energy schemes and pipelines. It is not a single project but includes several projects related to energy generation, infrastructure development and business areas. The initial focus is on electricity and some of the early harvest projects would be ready in three years and provide about 10,400 MWs of electricity. This way Pakistan has not to invest on projects connected with power generation and infrastructure development and the funds saved on these sectors could be utilized on upgrading the defence sector. China has already decided to provide to Pakistan highly sophisticated fighter aircrafts that could match the Rafale that India has decided to purchase from France. In addition to this during the last over 30 years the upgraded defence sector in Pakistan is the result of liberal military aid from China right from long range guns to fighter planes,to missiles besides technical and financial support for helping Pakistan to tone up its nuclear arsenal. Not only this China has remained in the forefront of those nations that have provided financial and technical assistance to Pakistan for building roads and railways besides upgrading the strike power in Pakistan's Navy and Air Force.Reports indicate that all this was being done for twin purposes. One was to woo Pakistan so that it allows China to set up its military bases and war heads in the northern areas of Pakistan and occupied Kashmir. Secondly, China wants to help Pakistan in its desire to upgrade and further strengthen its defence sector so that it has all the basic nuclear arsenal, missiles, submarines and highly sophisticated long range guns, tanks and fighter planes so that it can taken on India at any time.China wants to strengthen the strike power of Pakistan so that India adopts a massive stance towards China and Pakistan because China believes that enemy of India is China's friend. On the basis of its growing economy and having huge man power resources China has decided to build railway tracks all around India and bore a tunnel on the world's highest peak, the Mount Everest, which could connect Beijing with Nepal by train.Once Beijing is connected with Nepal by direct rail service it could add to the level of border conflict between China and India when India was being ringed by a rail track for which the Chinese engineers have started the work.Realising that India has gone closer to the USA, France, Germany, Japan and Canada China has decided to upgrade the Russian air power by exporting latest fighter aircrafts. This step is being initiated to widen the bridge between Russia and India, that have remained a trusted friends in the past.Well India would still love to have cordial ties with China provided Beijing resolves the border dispuite without laying claim on Arunachal Pradesh and some pockets of Ladakh.Once India Chine revive the old Hindi Chini Bhai Bhai era it would help the two to emerge as the biggest powers in the world. |
