| Jan protests over delay in distribution of solar lights in Mandi, Poonch | | |  Early Times Report
POONCH, Apr 22: National Conference on Tuesday staged a massive dharna at Mandi in protest against delay in provision of solar-lights to the identified beneficiaries while expressing concern over covert efforts being made to politicize the centrally sponsored scheme.
Leading the dharna, former MLA and senior National Conference leader Ajaz Jan said that the delay has already caused anguish among the people. He said around 11,000 lights had been sanctioned by the former Renewable Energy Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah, which could not be provided by the Omar led government due to enforcement of code of conduct.
Jan expressed anguish over the attempts being made by political leaders to get these lights distributed among their party workers and favourites in connivance with officials thus depriving the genuine cases to suffer.
The former MLA also highlighted various problems confronted to the people in Mandi area and urged the authorities to take urgent measures for redressing these. Besides senior district NC functionaries, Panchs and Sarpanchs of the area were among the prominent citizens who participated in the dharna. |
