Flood victims express concern over tardy relief distribution | | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Apr 21: A meeting was organized by Kashmir Flood Victims Welfare Forum (KFVWF) at Court Road here. The meeting was attended by representatives of traders, hoteliers, houseboat owners, transporters and a large number of flood victims from Anantnag, Srinagar, Budgam, Pulwama and Kulgam. Speaking on the occasion, Omer Bhat, Convener KFVWF stressed upon the flood affected people to organize well in order to mitigate their sufferings. Omer said that it is not only an old saying that God helps those who help themselves, but also a universal truth in today's world of pressure groups and lobbies. Omer said that getting together for a just cause and that too when the cause is as noble as ensuring that the livelihood of thousands of families gets ensured is something which has been ordered by the holy Quran at multiple places. He said that the Forum has resolved not to leave any stone unturned to ensure that fair compensation is acquired for every flood affected family. Omer said that it has also been resolved to ensure that every flood effected business gets back to pre-flood economic status in the shortest period of time. Bashir Ahmad of Pulwama expressed serious concern over the delay and silence with regard to flood relief to the deserving by the state and central governments. The relief distributed so far is insufficient and did not meet even basic requirements of the public and the business sector, said Bilal Wani, yet another affected person. Rohit Sharma, a trader from Hari Singh High Street criticized the administration for failing to make the atmosphere attractive for tourists at the ground level. |
