With riders, Modi assures support to Mufti | `No pull out, Govt to continue' | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 21: The Prime minister has reportedly decided to give full support to the chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and further strengthen the BJP-PDP alliance. However, the Centre has issued certain riders, which both the alliance partners have agreed to. According to highly placed sources, the assurance was given after strong reactions started coming from some political quarters and also in th media after the waving of Pakistani flags by the separatist Masarat Alam, who was subsequently arrested. "PM personally assured the CM Mufti Sayeed that the government will continue and there is no question of pulling out, though he also underlined the importance of adding some riders, to change the perception that the government is acting as a pro-separatists camp," said a senior bureaucrat, privy to the development. According to the sources, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants Mufti Mohammad Sayeed for some quite important factors. The continuation of alliance gives the Modi, more than the BJP, a tag that it has Muslim constituency in his side, which he needs very much as a head of the country with about 20 crore Muslim population. "The continuation of an alliance with the PDP also gives a credibility to the Modi government and also it helps in giving a message that Muslims are not on the fringe but are equal partners in the governance, which is quite important," said a senior minister.
