Dozens of landmines explode in LoC fire | | | M S Nazki Early Times Report
MENDHAR, May 11: Dozens of blasts caused by the explosion of landmines were heard in Sonawali Gali area of Mankote sub-sector of Mendhar, Poonch, today in the devastating fire that extended from the PoK side of the Line of Control (LoC) to this side. As part of their strategy to demine the Indian border areas to carve out safer infiltration routes for militants, Pak army put on fire the dry grass on their side of the LoC last night. The fire gradually spread to this side of the border, leading to the explosion of dozens of landmines. Most of the explosions were heard in the areas that fall between Sonawali Gali and Khera Complex in Sonawali area, official sources said. Sources said this was part of the Pak strategy to demine Indian border areas for the purpose of carving out safer infiltration routes for militants. As the chances of infiltration had increased now, troops had further enhanced vigil in Mankote sub-sector. It may be mentioned that troops had two days back foiled an infiltration bid from the Mankote area and killed a suspected foreign militant in a brief encounter. |
