Early Times Report

KATHUA, May 14: Loopholes in lists prepared by Block Development Office, BDO Marheen triggered resentment among villagers whose villages have been ignored while preparing lists for development under Border Area Development Programme (BAPD).
A number of angered protesters shouted slogans against BDO Marheen and alleged that the officer including surveyors prepared inaccurate estimate for development in 7 to 8 villages under BAPD central funded scheme.
The protest was led by Sarpanchs of various affected Panchayats.
While reinforcing protesters and criticizing the loopholes in development plan, Vidya Parkash Sarpanch Marheen Panchayat said Marheen Panchayat was totally ignored by surveyors during enlisting villages for development under BAPD.
He said the village Marheen falls just 4 km away from LoC but ironically mentioned as 8 km from border. He said the monotony crossed all limits when Raghunath Pur village that situated 7 km away to border, mentioned at 5 Km under the pressure of blue eyed persons.
Sukhdev Singh, Sarpanch Gopalchak Panchayat, highlighted the ignorance of the department and said the areas have been declared as border area where it is responsibility of the Rural Development Department to construct different roads under BAPD. The protesters sought inquiry against such surveyors who prepared wrong list. They said no fund has been released till date under BAPD for affected people who face frequent ceasefire violation and migrated during tense situation.
When contacted BDO Marheen admitted loopholes in the list and agreed to rectify the mistakes before giving practical shape for final recommendation.
