11thJ&K State Wushu Championship concludes | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 14 : Three day long 11thJ&K State Wushu Championship concluded at MA Stadium Jammu in which large number of Wushu players participated in different competitions held in both boys and girls categories of different age groups. Ranjeet Kalra a teaching faculty at University of Jammu and member BCCI was the chief guest where as Dr Aushtosh Sharma General Secretary J&K Olympic Association and Deepak Handa were the guests of honour. Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest, Ranjeet Kalra applauded the efforts of Wushu Association of J&K for promoting this combat sports to every nook and corner of the state and bring the laurels for the state at national and international level . Dr Aushtosh Sharma congratulated the winners of the event and Wushu Association of J&K for its excellent performance in the 35th National Games recently held at Kerala in which Wushu team bagged 04 medals. During the three day long tournament, the district Jammu remained overall champion with maximum number of medals followed by Samba and Udhampur which emerged as second and third runners up respectively. In the end, Kuldeep Handoo General Secretary of Wushu Association (J&K) presented the vote of thanks to the gathering and thanked J&K State Sports Council and J&K Police for their due support. Handoo also gave detailed brief about the achievements in the year 2014-15 which included One international medal, four medals in the national games and 16 medals in the different national championships in different categories in various age groups. The chief guest alongwith guests of honour presented medals and certificates of participation to the winners and participants during valedictory ceremony held on concluding day of championship. Earlier Chairman of Association, S Owais, IPS Director Vigilance (J&K) who also hold the chair of president of the association and H K Lohia, IPS IG Technical Services (PHQ) congratulated the organsing committee and the district units for their participation in the championship and making the event a grand success. Among other prominent present on this occasion include Dr R P Singh Principal G D Goenka, Ajay Paul Gill, Ravinder Singh (Gen Secy Athletic Association J&K), Abhishek Jain, Sharat Chander and principals of the various schools. |
