Jammu, May 14 : The two day 7th meeting of Programme Advisory Committee (PAC) on Himalayan Glaciology commenced today at School of Innovation & Community Development (SICD), SMVD University on behalf of Science & Engineering Research Board (SERB), Department of Science & Technology, GOI was inaugurated by Prof. S. K. Jain, Vice Chancellor, SMVD University. Speaking on the occasion Prof. Jain complimented SERB and appreciated the efforts being made in promoting the R& activities in this important and specialized area. He exhorted the faculty members to take advantage of various funding opportunities of DST, GOI. Prof. Anil V Kulkarni, Distinguished Visiting Scientist, Divecha Centre for Climate Change, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and chairman of the PAC highlighted the achievements that have been made in the area of glaciology research in the country after the formation of the PAC a few years back. He spoke about the training programmes that have been initiated at IISC Bangalore, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi & Geological Survey of India, Lucknow to train young researchers and scientists. |
