DCJ students interact with experts from US | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, June 12 : Department of Convergent Journalism, Central University of Kashmir Fridayorganised technical-cum-interactive sessions on 'Journalism for Social Change' and 'Online Journalism' for the students of second and fourth semester. Prof. Jyotika Ramaprasad, Vice-Dean for Graduate Studies & Research, University of Miami and Prof. Martha Mosha of University of Bostwana were the resource persons for the sessions held. In the first technical session, Prof. Jyotika gave an exhaustive presentation on the role of communication in facilitating social change with examples from her personal experience as a researcher working with HIV positive patients in Uganda. She talked about the communication solutions for global issues and referred to the concepts of development communication including dominant paradigm and participatory discourse. She underscored the need to understand the structural and other constraints in order to work around them to bring social changes and emphasized on the importance of communication expertise in the success of social welfare projects. In the second session, Prof Jyotika gave a lecture on the different research approaches and methods of data collection. In the post-lunch session, Prof. Martha Mosha gave a detailed presentation on the basics of online journalism while drawing examples from her native country, Bostwana. She talked about different aspects of online journalism including content production and maintenance. Martha also referred to the ethical issues related to social media.
