Early Times Report
Jammu, June 12: Despite High Court directions to restart the Gastroenterology department, the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) administration is appealing the Health and Medical Education department to challenge the court ruling. Sources told Early Times that after court stayed the government order to close gastroenterology department at Super Specialty Hospital (SSH) Jammu, the 'under pressure' administration of GMCH and SSH appear reluctant to implement the court orders. The reluctance is also despite repeated reminders from Health and Medical Education department to the GMHC authorities about the issue. On June 10, the Under Secretary to Government Health and Medical Education department had written to the Principal GMCH, saying "I am directed to request you to kindly intimate the action taken in compliance to the order passed by the Division Bench in the instant case." On the same day, in his response the Principal GMCH said that objections need to be filled by the administration to the court ruling. "In this context, the earlier communication dated 4/6/2015 wherein clear cut directions were sought from the (General) Administrative Department (GAD). The case was discussed with Deputy Advocate General who advised to get the objections filed by the GAD in view of the government order no. 139-HME of dated 22-04-2015," the Principal said in his reply. Meanwhile, a large number of patients had come to the Gastroenterology department on Friday morning for check-up, but they had to return home disappointed. |
