Shocked by Kohli's communal statement, Govt may reopen corruption cases against him 6/13/2015 12:27:20 AM Early Times Report Jammu, June 12: Shocked by his recent statement against his party colleague and minister, the government is contemplating to reopen corruption cases filed against Abdul Gani Kohli when he was serving as an engineer. Sources said the BJP leadership is annoyed with Kohli after he issued a statement in Srinagar in which he tried to give a communal colour to the government's move to get forest land cleared of illegal encroachment in Rajouri. "Muslims in the Jammu never sided with the separatists or anti-national forces. The Gujjars were used as front by Kashmir-based leaders to grab land. But Kohli, being BJP minister has given it a communal colour. The party has thus decided to check his credentials," said a senior BJP minister. "Kohli managed to get a BJP ticket and then win elections with the help of a senior BJP leader who himself has a shady past. The BJP top leadership was opposing giving him ticket. The senior leadership of the party, which wants to send a message of probity, has decided to review all pending cases against him," the senior leader told Early Times. He said a decision of the party high command in this regard was communicated to the state government. Sources said Kohli had managed to get a clean chit in one of the cases filed by the Vigilance by framing his namesake colleague. "Kohli managed to save his skin by fabricating the documents. This is a serious matter. The BJP loses moral right to talk about eradicating corruption if it doesn't act against Kohli. So it needs to be probed and he should be expelled if the charges against him prove true," the BJP leader said. The BJP, he said, is particularly disturbed after media reports suggested that Kohli is also involved in a land-grabbing case. "The party high command has taken a serious note of it," he said. "Kohli can't be allowed to go scot free and be allowed to say anything he likes by exploiting religion. BJP has never discriminated on religious lines nor has it appeased anyone on it. It doesn't follow the Congress culture.
