No Myanmar type operations across J&K border | | | It seems that the establishment in Islamabad has reacted against Indian forces' anti-insurgency operations across the Myanmar border unnecessarily. There is no need for Pakistan to get nervous because India, despite having been troubled and tormented by a 25-year long Pakistan sponsored insurgency, has never thought of crossing the LOC and the IB in Jammu and Kashmir for smashing the arms training camps across the border. There are over 42 arms training camps in Pakistan and occupied Kashmir and the Indian troops have never thought of smashing these camps after crossing the LOC and the IB.That the Army has no plan to carry out Myanmar type operation across the LOC and the IB in Jammu and Kashmir is evident from the statement of one of the Corps Commanders posted in Kashmir. He has said the surgical strike carried out by the Indian army inside Myanmar following an insurgent attack in Manipur cannot be linked to the situation along LoC in Kashmir."Manipur incident (strikes in Myanmar) is according to the situation and circumstances there. I would not like to connect one with the other," General officer Commanding of Army's 15 Corps Lt General Subrata Saha has said. When asked whether the Army will undertake similar operations against militants on the other side of LoC in Pakistan-administered Kashmir he has said that the situation in Jammu and Kashmir is different from the one that exists on the India-Myanmar border "A response or reaction to any operational situation is based on the situation in that area. I do not think it is professionally right to link one (situation) with another," Saha has stated. And if the Army authorities term Pakistan Interior Minister, Nisar Ali Khan's reaction of Indian Army's anti-insurgency operations across Myanmar has nothing short of panic they are right. Had New Delhi in general and the Army authorities in particular any plan to carry out Myanmar type operations in Occupied Kashmir or in Pakistan this could have been done anytime during the last 25 years. During these years Pakistan trained militants have caused severe devastation to the infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir and have been responsible for the killing of over 50,000 innocent people during these 25 years. It was as a result of Pakistan's proxy war against India in Jammu and Kashmir that over 3.50 lakh Kashmiri Pandits had to flee the valley in 1990 and till date they have not been able to find peace of mind because they continue to yearn for returning to the valley. The Indian security forces have banked on anti-insurgency nd anti-infiltration measures. Troops, deployed on the LOC, and the BSF, guarding the International Border, in Jammu and Kashmir state have been given the task of preventing militants from infiltrating into the state from across the border. The Indian security forces have been assigned the task of accounting for those militants who were operating within Jammu and Kashmir. During the last 10 years the security forces have achieve great success in tackling the menace of militancy which is evident from the marked decline in the level of violence and level of ingress on militants from across the LOC and the IB. Hence there is no need for the Indian troops to carry out Myanmar type operations in Pakistan and Occupied Kashmir. It is so because New Delhi is keen to promote cordial ties with its neighbouring countries and other nations. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has succeeded in promoting friendly relations with many developed and developing nations. It is unfortunate if Pakistan has not' so far, reciprocated India's desire for normalizing New Delhi-Islamabad relations in the interest of peace. If the Interior Minister of Pakistan Nisar Ali Khan, believes that his threat tht Pakistan has nuclear weapons which may not allow India to carry out Myanmar type operations he is mistaken.India too is having nuclear weapons and missiles, more powerful than Pakistan. |
