Civil Defence to launch mass outreach mission

Jammu, June 12: The Civil Defence Origanation, Udhampur unit, today decided to revamp the organisation and increase its outreach activities both at organisational level and geographical spread of the units.
According to press release, it was also decided to provide better equipment to the CD Organisation and SDRF Response Centre located at district headquarters in Udhampur.
The decisions were taken in the meeting of CD Wardens chaired by Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, Controller Civil Defence (Deputy Commissioner) Udhampur in which Chief Warden, Deputy Wardens and Zonal wardens participated. The DDC called for greater public participation and having more response teams across the national highway, state roads and disaster prone areas in the district.
Dr Shahid called upon the Civil Defence wardens to increase the number of volunteers and constitute vibrant teams. He also informed that all the departments will be associated with Civil Defence and a workshop will be organinsed by the end of month for mainstreaming of civil defence organisations in the developmental process for better response during calamities and ensuring strengthening of the CD organisation through team building with Government establishments at Tehsil and Block levels. He called upon the Tehsildars and BDOs to play key role in making CD stronger and vibrant in the district.
The DC informed that process has been started for procurement of equipment, articles, shoes, protective clothing and machinery for SDRF men in the district and process will be completed in two weeks time which will be a short in the arm for the men responding to disasters in the district.
Earlier, Bodh Raj, DySP Civil Defence and Deputy Controller presented a resume of activities in the district over past two years and projected the demands and requirements which were assured by the DC to be fullfileld immediately. Chief Warden Civil Defence, Surinder Khajuria, Deputy Chief Wardens, Ved Parkash and Advocate Swatantra Dev Kotwal also presented their views during the meeting. It was further decided that CD organisation will organize a series of programmes.
