Congress stages protest rally against J&K Government over flood compensation | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, June 12: Jammu and Kashmir unit of Congress today staged a rally here to protest alleged failure of the state government to provide adequate compensation to the last year flood victims. "Selab Zadah Loungoo ko Mawzah do warna sarkar Chood do (Give compensation to the flood hit people or otherwise leave the government)," read a banner as hundreds of congress women activists marched a short distance from the party headquarters at Moulana Azad Road to nearby Regal Chowk. Initially, the activists led by All India Mahila Congress chairperson Shobha Oza and state Congress president G A Mir tried to march towards Lal Chowk but were not allowed by police fearing law and order situation. Later, they moved towards Regal chowk and returned to the party headquarters peacefully, raising slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. "We have staged this demonstration to highlight the failure of the government in rehabilitation of flood affected people. The PDP-BJP coalition government has failed on all fronts," a congress spokesman said. |
