Govt nullifies reports of schools forcing students to pay flood 'donation fee' | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, June 12: Days after the reports of the school authorities demanding money from students in the name of flood donation became the limelight in certain media section, the state government clarified on Friday that neither any order over the issue was ever issued nor such a practice is in vogue at any government school. Earlier the reports were carried that in several government schools, the authorities are coercing the students to pay Rs 1000 each in the name of flood donation or face action. The students were reportedly complaining against what they termed the high handedness of the school authorities. Meanwhile, the government on Friday declared that no such order of donation was ever issued and that no one should be forced to pay any amount to any school in the name of donation for the flood affected school buildings. Director Education Kashmir Showkat Beigh said that his directorate never has asked any school to compel the students to pay any flood donation fee. "It is a voluntary exercise. If any student from a stable economic background wants to contribute in rebuilding the flood ravaged school buildings that is fine but no one has been forced to pay any amount," he said The director further said that there are the students from well off families enrolled in government higher secondary schools and the school authorities have only asked the students to contribute towards the flood donation if they desire. "How such issue can be an objectionable entity. We all are contributing towards rebuilding the schools," Director said. |
