Heavy rains wreck havoc in Doda, Bhaderwah | | | Early Times Report
BHADEWRAH, July 26: Heavy rains in Bhaderwah and Doda wrecked havoc as the water entered many villages , roads and its outskirts, causing extensive damage to the crops , vehicles and other property. The Doda-Bhaderwah road remained closed to traffic for three hours after continuous landsliding and shooting stones on various parts of the road damaged a portion of the near Dradu , Bhalla and Malnai . The incident took place early Sunday morning. The vehicles moving on Bhaderwah -Doda road were stranded for hours, causing inconvenience to the passengers, employees and school children. A senior government official in Doda said: "Our men and machinery has been swung into action to clear the road. Within a few hours, we managed to clear the road for light vehicles."Reports said hundreds of vehicles were stranded on both sides of the road, including trucks loaded with essentials and after three hours road were thrown open for traffic. There are also reports of cloud burst at Malnai and Sora area on Doda Bhaderwah road which has damaged crops and there is no report of loss of life from any part of Bhaderwah . Several link roads and culverts were also damaged due to flood in the nallahs and the vehicular traffic also remained suspended in Doda and Bhaderwah .Meanwhile, people are also facing immense problems in getting essential commodities as supplies to most of the area have been disrupted due to the closure of roads. "The shortage of LPG, ration and vegetables is widespread in all the major towns and the people are left to fend for themselves in the inclement weather conditions" sources said. They said that continuous rain was hampering the restoration work and many areas have been cut off from rest of the state for past many days. |
