Srinagar, July 26 : The 16th University Building Committee (UBC) meeting of the Central University of Kashmir (CUK) was today held at Sonwar administrative campus here with officiating Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj udDin in chair. The members present during the meeting included, Prof. A. M Pathan, Ex.Vice-Chancellor, Central University of Karnataka, Prof. M. Afzal Zargar, Registrar, CUK, Dr. N. A. Gilkar I/c Finance Officer, CUK, Mohammad Amin Nowshehri, Ex. Chief Engineer, R&B, Govt J&K, Munir Ahmad Khan, Ex. Chief Architect, Govt. of J&K, Prof. Ghulam Mohi-ud- Din Mir, Principal, SSM College of Engineering, S.K. Kharab General Manager, NBCC, Mohammad Rafiq, Zonal In charge NBCC, and V.C. Misra Architect, C.P. Kukreja, New Delhi. Officiating Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj udDin, while welcoming the participants divulged about the progress made by the University on the academic and administrative front. He said the University has introduced new courses and is marching ahead on the academic front. Prof. Mehraj udDin informed the participants about the visit of the Honorable Chief Minister, Mufti Muhammad Sayeed and the Honorable Education, Minister, Syed Naeem Akhter to the designated campus at Ganderbal and the subsequent assurance of the State Government about providing additional land to the University for some construction. He said the University was keen to shift the academic activities to the already designated campus. Registrar, Prof. Muhammad Afzal Zargar said the University was in constant touch with the government vis-à-vis acquiring of the additional land. The land would be utilized for immediate construction once the University gets its possession, he added. Various other important decisions with regard to the campus development were taken during the meeting. The members also recommended to immediately convene meetings of the Monitoring Committee, a sub-committee to oversee the progress of the ongoing work and suggest measures to overcome the difficulties if any confronting the mega project.
