Farmers seek compensation for crop loss | | | Early Times Report Kathua, July 26:- Over 70 percent paddy crops completely damaged due to incessant rains in previous days at Mandyal in Tehsil Hiranagar. Farmers staged protest demonstration at village near International border and sought compensation for their losses. Pawan Kumar, a farmer told that 70% paddy crops of entire areas along International Border has been damaged in recent incessant rains and flood but nobody from administration came to ask our grievances. He stringently condemned the negligent attitude of both district administration and agriculture department. Another farmer Amandeep Kumar said the farmers approached to agriculture to know the cause of disease to 11/21 paddy crop but officials made several excuses. He said agricultural officers must come ahead during tough situation for farmers and properly guide them how to protect their remaining crops from disease. He said most of the crop damaged in rains and remaining by disease, he said administration and agriculture department should come forward and compensate the farmers for their losses. While, Sanjeev Verma and Dhuni Chand expressed concern over negligent attitude of state government and said there must be special package in State budget for losses due to rains, floods or disease. He appealed district administration to constitute a team for assessing their losses for compensation. They said how they can return loan under KCC as their crops are being damaged in several consecutive seasons. He said fertilizers and manures have been washed out in rains and they are unable to spray another fertilizer in crops. He sought compensation for losses and proper guidance to protect remaining crops. |
