Vested interest still rules the roost in JK, Mufti proposes, JKTDC disposes | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 24:Questioning the seriousness of the chief minister's recent assertion on protection and preservation of historic buildings for promoting heritage tourism in Jammu and Kashmir, Jammu Heritage Conservation Club (JHCC) has urged him to introduce a bill on the subject in the house in the coming assembly session. "Our state is a goldmine of heritage assets and government will take all steps to showcase them by maintaining the regal essence of its past", Mufti had commented on the subject at a function in Srinagar, the summer capital, on August 9 (last month). Charging the officials of his department (JKTDC in this case) of defying Mufti Mohammed Sayeed's suggestion, JHCC has demanded to bring a bill "JK Heritage Conservation Bill 2015" in the state legislature during autumn session commencing from October 3 in a bid to protect all heritage sites and structures in the state. In a statement released to media, JHCC has said the management was bent upon dismantling a historic building (C-Block) that constitutes an integral part of the main heritage complex and substitute it with a multi storey structure. Surprisingly, all other surrounding residential blocks have come up decades after it, the press release said. "I haven't seen any managing director coming with any innovative idea for the betterment of the corporation. All of them, barring one or two, had carried spades, pick axes, shovels and trawls with them, just breaking and renovating around. Surprisingly, the renovation doesn't take place even in reputed private hotels at such frequency", he disclosed. |
