| Now, CUJ charges Rs 1000 'dissertation fee' | | | Bijay Charak

Jammu, Sept 24: The Central University of Jammu is charging each student Rs 1000 as 'dissertation fee' without explaining what it means.
Students pursuing MA in various courses in CUJ told Early Times that in the second year it was the responsibility of students to do field work, get the dissertation typed and printed.
"The students have to bear the entire expenditure and submit the dissertation to the university. It is beyond our imagination for what purpose are we are asked to shell out Rs 1000," said a student.
Criticizing the varsity administration, the student said the payment demand points towards increasing privatization of education.
"The University Grants Commission amply funds the central universities, including CUJ, but still the CUJ has been charging the students. If they have charged Rs 1000 as dissertation fee, why did they not give any explanation for it," said another student.
They said that IGNOU is also a Central University and different type of dissertations are also prepared by the students in PG courses but the students there are not charged anything. Meanwhile, when contacted by Early Times, CUJ's Registrar Jit Singh did not give a convincing explanation on the issue. He said if any student has any problem regarding the dissertation fee, he or she "should approach the university administration." |
