Super-speciality hospital celebrates World Heart Day | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 29 : Adhering to the theme "Creating a Heart Healthy Environment" chosen by world Heart Federation (WHF), Cardiology department of Government Medical College and Super speciality, Jammu joined millions others in the World to celebrate "World Heart Day". The staff of CATH lab where minor as well as major cardiac surgeries and procedures are performed were also part of the august gathering. Eminent cardio-thoracic surgeon Dr. Gurjit Singh briefed about the dangers of giving little or no importance to food habits while dealing with cardiac diseases. He elaborated on this and gave detailed account of impact of unhealthy food on heart. Prominent Nephrologist Dr. S.K.Bali gave an account of advances which cardiac science has made during the last decade. He talked at length about recent advances in the cardiology and said that heart diseases are lifestyle diseases and can be tackled well. He complimented the Department of Cardiology for having kept the standards high. Present Head, Department of Cardiology, Dr. Sushil Sharma gave a detailed lecture on how to create heart healthy environment. He said "World is losing 17.3 million precious lives every year and of this, we are contributing 1.7-2 million lives annually. He said, even those who are suffering from cardiac ailments especially Coronary Artery Disease need not to give up but understand that lifestyle modification could change their life for all times to come. Prominent among those who attended the function included eminent cardio-thoracic surgeon Dr. Arvind Kohli, Administrator GMC Babila Rakwal and Medical Suprintendent SSH Dr. Romesh Gupta. |
