Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 21: Seasoned cueist, Sohail Khalid today lifted the senior billiards title outplaying Jaideep Manocha 3-1 (101-86, 39-102, 102-74, 100-25) in the final of the 23rd Jammu District Billiards and Snooker Association played at Billiards Hall, MA Stadium, here. In the final and valedictory function, Member Legislative Assembly (MLA), Rajesh Gupta was chief guest, who gave away winners and runners-up trophies as also other individual prizes. He appreciated the organisers, Jammu and Kashmir Billiards and Snooker Association (JKBSA) for reviving the activities after electing a new look and young team of office bearers. The chief guest offered all possible help to promote the cue game in the state, especially in Jammu district and assured the project the urgent needs of the Association with the government. The MLA also suggested the Association to introduce women's in the cue game so as to create balance, which was immediately endorsed and accepted by the members of the JKBSA. Earlier, chairman of the Association and former president, Siddharth Sharma welcomed the distinguished gathering amidst a brief note of the district championship. President of the Association, Sanjeev Gupta speaking to chief guest informed that a record 100 young men took part in the championship. He disclosed that district championship was also underway at Srinagar wherein again a good number of boys and turned up. General secretary of the Association, Vishal Abrol highlighted the difficulties and projected a couple of demands which need to be redressed at the earliest. Meanwhile, in other titles, decided earlier, the senior snooker title went to Vidit Gawri, who beat Abhi Gupta in the final. Similarly, in junior snooker event, Rohit Chib defeated Mandeep Singh whereas the junior billiards title bagged by Mandeep Singh beating Kanav Manwa. All the matches were officiated by marker, Rakesh Sharma. |
