Panthers Mahila wing stages protest against price rise | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 21: Mahila wing of JKNPP today held a massive demonstration at exhibition ground in protest against the raging inflation coupled with the new fiscal policy of the govt. imposing new taxes and enhancing the already existing taxes. Hundreds of Mahila Panthers led by Manju Singh senior JKNPP leader and wife of Harsh Dev Singh Chairman JKNPP assembled at exhibition ground near press club Jammu and held a dharna seeking the rollback of new taxes and initiation of effective steps to control the surging prices of essential commodities. Addressing the gathering Manju Singh flayed the imposition of additional taxes on various services including Railway travel, Eating out in Restaurants, Air travel, Mobile phone, cable services etc in the name of 'Swachh Bharat' cess. She regretted that people who were already reeling under the soaring prices of essential commodities including pulses, onions, cooking oils besides other edibles were made by the govt. to bear the additional burden of fresh taxation. Describing the fresh taxes as highly unfair and atrocious, she demanded immediate rollback of all such taxes. Manju Singh further pointed out that 'Swachh Bharat' as originally conceived was to be funded under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). She lamented that rather than persuading the Corporate sector to fulfill their objection, the BJP led govt. was shifting the burden to common masses and individual tax payers and conferring undue favours upon the corporate and foreign investors. Lampooning the undue favours upon foreign investors and increased taxation of its own citizens, she cautioned the govt. to stop taking Indian electorates for granted. |
