Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 18: Hitting out Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) for its failure in maintain cleanliness in the municipal areas of the Jammu City, State President, Kranti Dal, Pritam Sharma today said on the ground, the hype and photo-ops by ministers and bureaucrats have failed to make an impact. According to press release, Pritam Sharma said that despite nine months of the State Government down the line, its statistics reveal that Swachh Bharat Mission has a long way to go before the goal of eliminating open defecation can be achieved. "Inadequate funds, lack of capacity of municipalities to undertake the Gigantic task, an ineffective awareness campaign that has failed to bring about behavioural changes among the people to use latrines, are among some of the reasons that urban experts are citing as factors that could end up derailing the ambitious mission," he said. Without basic necessities, the "Swachh Bharat Abhiyan" will not yield any fruitful results, he said adding that of a large number of population still defecates in the open causing microbial contamination. He said Kranti Dal delegation already apprised JMC and JDA about worsening insanitation conditions in Roop Nagar area by submitting memorandum to JDA on 14th July 2015 and JMC on 29th July in this regard but all in vain till date. He demanded installation of dustbin and container to collect garbage and re-constructed the damaged drains. He also demanded that government should instruct owners of the plots who provide space to labourers to for accommodation to built toilet so that they cannot defecate in open. Vijay Kumar, Rajinder Bhagat, Akhil Gandotra, Rajan Gupta, Tarun Gupta, Vijay Sharma, Kuldeep Sharma, Kernail Singh and Sunil Sharma were also present on the occasion. |
