School Education department all set to host 'useless' Education Conclave | Lakhs to go down the drain | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Apr 23: At a time when the state government is impressing upon the departments to adopt austere measures in order to check un-necessary expenditure, the School Education department is all set to host an event which is all set to put burden on state ex-chequer. Sources told Early Times that the event titled as 'Education Conclave' would see participation of more than 1,500 officials of the department and they would be given 'training' by the trainers. The event is all set to disturb the educational activities in the educational institutes with students all set to miss classes with the event being held on Monday (April 25). "In the Kashmir valley many of the working days are lost due to the turbulent situation. As such it is imperative that maximized benefits are accrued from the days when the situation is normal. However, the higher ups of the department are not ready to learn a lesson and they continue to play with the career of the students," said sources. Sources said that lakhs of rupees would be sent on the event which would be held at Sher-I-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC). The event would be attended by teachers, zonal education officers and other officials of the education department. "The department higher ups day in and day out deliver lecture on completion of syllabus in the educational institutes. However, on ground they take action that defeats this very purpose. Holding of the conclave is an addition to such activities and it is futile to hold such events," said sources. Sources said that Kashmir valley is always chosen an 'experimental laboratory' for holding such events adding that no such activity takes places in other parts of the state. They said that steps need to be taken so that austere measures are initiated by the department higher-ups and there is no wastage of money. "Accountability needs to be inculcated in the Department of Education and the officers need to be accounted for the expenditure carried out by them. At times it has been observed that un-necessary expenditure is carried and holding of education conclave on Monday is yet another exercise in this regard," said sources. The teaching fraternity has taken the hosting of event with a pinch of salt. The teachers say that punitive action is taken against them if the results are not up to the standard adding that nobody looks towards the 'follies' of the higher ups of the department. "Teachers are held accountable for the poor results but nobody makes the officers and officials accountable for their actions. Nobody takes action against the people who resort to the wastage of time and money by holding un-necessary events. The non-action in this regard has made matters worse in the education department," said a teacher on condition of anonymity. |
