Budda Amarnath pilgrims among 16 injured, one critical | Low intensity blast rocks Poonch | | Rajouri, Aug 13: A low intensity blast rocked the Poonch town this evening in which atleast sixteen persons including some Budda Amarnath pilgrims sustained injuries. According to police sources, a crude low intensity bomb rocked the Poonch city this evening when miscreants showing their presence led a blast on main road leading to Dashnami Akhara from bus stand in the heart of Poonch town. They said that the bomb was planted on the road side behind a Tata Sumo vehicle and blast could either have triggered with remote control or with a time device. Sources said, Police and locals immediately rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to the District Hospital (DH) Poonch for treatment. Locals residing in close vicinity of area rushed to hospital to inquire the well being of their relatives. "As the BSNL's and other communication services remained snapped more details including identification of the injured couldn't be collected, sources added. When contacted DIG, Rajouri-Poonch Police Range Johnny Williams said, "About 16 people were injured including 3-5 pilgrims in this low intensity crude bomb.' He added that all the injured are out of danger, except one woman who had received some serious injuries. "The injured were treated in the hospital and many among them have been discharge," he added. DIG Rajouri-Poonch categorically denied that it was not an incident of grenade throwing in which anti-national elements had targeted the pilgrims. Here it needs to mention that militants /their supporters were under tremendous pressure from the separatist forces from Kashmir and from their mentors sitting across the border to disturb the ongoing Shri Budha Amar Nath Yatra and I-Day celebrations to express their sympathy and to extend moral support to their ongoing struggle in Kashmir and with this bomb the miscreant wants to mark their presence. Meanwhile security has further tightened in Rajouri district also and surveillance has been increased on the Jammu-Poonch highway, said a senior police officer. |
