BJP ignores Dogriyat, preaches Kashmiriyat in Jammu | Digging political grave | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 13: The BJP leadership has, it seems gone astray. It is doing certain things which no normal political party does in a constituency that reposes faith in it. For example, one of the J&K BJP spokesperson has gone to the extent of distorting history to please and please Kashmir, which expelled the entire miniscule minority from the Valley in early 1990. The case in point is what the BJP man said about the so-called origin of Kashmiriyat and its religio-cultural and significance. He described Kashmiriyat as a unique trait of Kashmiri society and gave the credit for the rise of Kashmiriyat to Muslim rulers. "Kashmiriyat, a unique trait of Kashmiri society, was patronised by two Muslim Kings, namely Sultan-Gyas-ud-Din Zain-ul-Abdin (fondly called Badshah) and Jalal-ud-Din Mohammed (popularly known as Akbar the Great) and nurtured by Sufi saints and Reshis with Sheikh Noor-ud-Din known with reverence as Nund Reshi being more prominent. Subsequently, with passage of time it became a way of life in Kashmir and 'Kashmiriyat' became synonymous with 'Sufism' or 'Inclusive Islam'. The main pillars of Kashmiriyat are co-existence, tolerance and pluralism. Kashmiriyat in its true form is the modern day secularism". The BJP leader completely overlooked three facts. One, the word Kashmiriyat was coined only after 1975 by one Jammu-based follower of Sheikh Abdullah. There is no piece of literature pre-1976 which refers to this word Kashmiriyat. Two, he completely overlooked the fact that Kashmir before and after Budshah all through witnessed persecution, conversion and exodus of Hindus. Three, he also perhaps willfully suppressed the fact that there was no Hindu migration from Kashmir between 1819 and 1947 (Sikh and Dogra rules). It appears the BJP has developed hatred for the Dogra Maharajas for political reasons or for keeping their new Kashmiri masters in good humour. On August 10, one MP from Jammu had told the Rajya Sabha that J&K acceded to India because of Kashmiri Muslims. He had also overlooked the fact that Maharaja of the state alone had the power to accede nor not to accede to India. The worst part of the whole formulation of the Jammu-based votary of intolerant Kashmiriyat didn't say a word about the all-embracing and exceptionally tolerant Dogriyat. It is clear that the BJP, which got massive mandate from the Jammu Dogras, has no regard whatever for the sentiments of the Dogras. |
