Horse polo camp for girls concludes | | | Early Times Report KARGIL, Aug 13: The 12 days Polo Promotional and Training Camp for Ladies has concluded today at Bhimbhat Shagaran (Polo Ground) in which 10 girls from all over Ladakh were getting expert training. The Camp concluded with an exhibition Polo Game. The Camp was organised by Himalayan Sports and Cultural Organization Drass in Collaboration with SECMOL Leh which is appreciated by the Polo Lovers of Ladakh. On the occasion SDM Drass Barkat Ali NIzami was the Cheif Guest and Commander 56 Mountain Brigade, Brigadier H Bhalla was the Guest of Honour. Barkat Ali Nizami told that this is a new era in t he history of Traditional Sports and Rivival of Polo Game in J&K and the girls who participated in the Camp are the history makers. He appreciated and congratulated Mohammd Amin Polo and his Organization for organizing such an event and making a new team for Ladakh Polo which will soon participate in National Events. Talking to our correspondent, Mohammad Amin President Polo Promotion Committee Kargil and Chairman of the Organization told that it's an initiative which was finalized in March during an informal meeting with the Renowned Educationist and reformist Dr Sonam Wangchuk at Kargil. The agreement was that Himalayan Sports and Cultural Organization will provide expert training to students and young ladies from all over Ladakh for Horse Polo and SECMOL will provide expert coaching in ICE Hockey and this camp is the beginning of the initiative. He further added that the Organisation is trying to send a women team from J&K for the first time for National Polo tournament to held in Manipur in September October. This initiative will boost the participation of women in sports like Horse Polo and Ice Hockey which will help in showcasing the talent of the girl child of this frontier region. Talking about their experience regarding the training one of the trainee Dichen told that it was a life time experience and an opportunity for them to excel in such a field where girls hardly participate. Horse Polo is in itself a challenge for the girls and is happy for becoming one of the foremost female from J&K to Participate in Horse Polo game, she added. |
