Congress high command seek fresh list of aspiring district presidents | Behind the curtain activity intensifies in PCC | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 19: Hectic lobbying has begun within the Pradesh congress before the appointment of district presidents as the party high command has reportedly asked JKPCC president GA Mir to resubmit the names of the aspirants. While the picture is almost clear in respect of other districts, all eyes are set on Samba, Kathua, Udhampur and Jammu Urban where the aspirants are leaving no stone unturned to project themselves as the most genuine claimant for the significant position in the party. According to the sources in Congress circles, a triangular contest among claimants is being witnessed in Samba and Kathua for the post of district presidents while for Udhampur and Jammu rural, a straight contest seems emerging again. For Samba, sources elaborated, incumbent district president Parkash Sharma, former minister Manjit Singh and senior leader Vinod Sharma are the claimants and the trio has backing of different lobbies in State Congress. Similarly, for Kathua, former minister and Azad loyalist Manohar Lal Sharma is getting a tough competition from young Pankaj Dogra, who has the blessings of PCC president GA Mir and more particularly PCC senior Vice-President Sham Lal Sharma. The incumbent district president Subash Gupta is also trying his best to get re-nominated for the position, sources added. For Jammu Rural, Maheshwar Singh and Hari Singh Chib are in the race while Azad loyalist Brij Mohan Sharma and incumbent district president Ashok Gupta, a member of GA Mir group, are ahead from others for their claim over the position. Even as GA Mir had almost finalized the names for district presidents after consultation with Ghulam Nabi Azad during their marathon meeting at the later's residence in New Delhi a few days back, sources said that AICC general secretary and incharge J&K affairs Ambika Soni suggested the PCC president to delay the announcement for a month. She is learnt to have told Mir to hold consultations with his colleagues in the party before re-submitting the list of names for appointment as district presidents, sources informed. |
