Weapon snatching bid foiled in Anantnag | | | Saahil Suhail
Early Times Report
Anantnag, Oct 19: Cops guarding the residence of Peoples Democratic Party leader, Peer Mohammad Hussain who is also the Vice Chairman of the J&K Wakaf Board, resorted to aerial firing in Tajiwara area Achabal Anantnag during the intervening night to foil a weapon snatching bid. Reports said that cops fired several rounds in air after witnessing a suspicious movement of some unknown people around the residence in late night at around 11:30pm. However there were no reports of any causality or injury in the firing incident. Soon after the firing incident that created panic in the area, forces cordoned off the village in a bid to to nab the suspects, however the operation was later called off the suspects had already escaped from the spot. PDP leader, Peer Mohammad Hussain was last year elected as the Vice Chairman in J&K Wakaf Board and is functioning as Chief Executive Officer of the Board, in addition to his own duties. Hussian, a veteran and founding member of PDP, was a cabinet Minister during PDP-Congress regime as well. Pertinent to mention here, weapon snatching incidents has risen in Southern Kashmir during the ongoing unrest. Militants groups like LeT and HM has targeted many minority pickets and politicians and snatched weapons of the cops guarding them. Earlier, Militants stormed the residence of PDP District President Anantnag, Advocate Javed Ahmad at Dailgam and fled away with five AK-47 riles. Excluding Damhal Hanjipora Police station incident where villagers looted over three dozen riles, Police has also lost over 37 weapons during this unrest in separate weapon snatching incidents. |
