BSNL makes purchase of modem mandatory with new internet connection | | | Vinod Sharma
Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 19: At a time when private players have been offering attractive offers to lure customers, the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has made it compulsory for the customers to purchase modem with every new broadband internet connection. The private players have been offering cheapest data packs, calling packs and other facilities, the mandatory provision of BSNL is like cheating the customers. A subscriber of BSNL, Ranjeet Singh said that he was already a user of broadband connection and recently he required another broadband internet connection for his shop. "I was surprised to find that BSNL has kept a condition for compulsory purchase of mortem with every internet broadband connection", Singh said, adding, "I already have an extra modem in my house and then for what use the new modem will be and why I will purchase the new one?. He further said that the private telecommunication companies have been offering best services besides cheapest plans and there was not any compulsion to purchase modem but the decision of BSNL was like cheating with customers. Another customer Surjeet Kumar said that by forcibly selling the modem, it seemed a deeper conspiracy to bring the public sector company in losses. "If the customer will feel compulsion, they will ultimately move to the private telecommunication operators and will incur profit", he alleged, adding that under a well planned conspiracy, the public sector undertakings were dragged to losses and this could also be seen through the prism as a tactic to benefit the private players and effort to make loss to the BSNL. He further said that the management should introduce some new initiatives and there must not be any compulsion to compete with the private telecom companies. General Manager of BSNL Gautam Lal said that it was a policy matter to give a new modem with every new broad band connection. "We also give gurantee of five years with the modem and under some exceptional cases, like as for defence personnel, the modem is not compulsory but for all customers it is compulsory", he said. |
