Land Acquisition for Ring Roads
Farmers get positive response from CM
2/14/2018 10:44:55 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 14: Farmers representing Ring / Semi Ring Road Land Owners Welfare Committee have finally taken up the issue of land acquisition in Jammu & Kashmir regions with Chief Minister in Jammu. CM according to affected farmers gave them a positive response and assured their grievances would be addressed soon.
Details available with Early Times reveal that farmers from Jammu region affected by proposed ring road had a meeting with Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti in Jammu on Tuesday. Sources say that CM assured farmers that they would be given fair compensation. Farmers demanded that National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) be directed to go for Private Negotiations as was done during railway project execution in J&K.
Earlier the Statement of Revenue Minister Rehman Veeri from the floor of the house regarding payment of compensation to affected people had irked the farmers in Kashmir and Jammu regions. Minister had made it clear that Govt will not pay compensation as per the central land acquisition act wherein 4 times compensation is paid in rural areas and 2 times more payment than market value of land is paid in urban areas.
While talking to Early Times Land Owners Welfare Committee leaders from Jammu , Kulbhushan Khajuria & R S Chib said that they would continue their struggle for ensuring fair compensation during land compensation. They said meeting with CM was very cordial and gave farmers full assurance of her Govt's support.
"If NHAI has no issues in paying 4 times more compensation to us why is Government not agreeing to it? He hoped CM will take up the issue with Central Govt and NHAI authorities" said G A Paul another leader of farmers from Kashmir.
