BSNL continues to send vulgar messages

Jammu, Feb 18: The sending of vulgar messages such as "Aaj Main Ghar Pe Akeli Hun Jaldi Call Kro", "Mujse Dosti Kroge", "Mera Number Change Ho Gya Hai Is Number Pe Call Karo" to most of customers has become a routine of Bhartiya Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL). The process to stop the messages is cumbersome.
A social activist Ajay Dogra sent a complaint to Centralized Public Grievances Redress and Monitoring System Department of Telecommunications regarding unwanted messages forwarded by BSNL. In the complaint Dogra has mentioned that the messages such as "Aaj Main Ghar Pe Akeli Hun Jaldi Call Kro", "Banayen Is Din KO Aur Bhi Khaas, Karen Special Doston Se Manchahi Battein Dial 5122255" "Hi Aaj Main Free Hoon, Kijiye Mujse Chatpati Baatein Dail 5122255" "Bhul Gaye Muje, Aapki Baat Hui Thi Mujse Dobara Vahi Mast Baat Kare 5122255 Pr", were annoying and created a bad impression in the society. He had appealed to the concerned quarter to direct BSNL to stop such non-sense, which brought bad name for the government telecommunication service provider.
The Grievance Redress and Monitoring System forwarded the complaint to BSNL, which in turn gave a detailed reply, suggesting very cumbersome procedure to stop such messages.
As per the reply furnished by the Central Monitoring System, the BSNL has maintained that the customer could register for DND services by sending message to 1909 by typing START-1 and then the customer would receive a confirmation message and then by again typing YES, send it to 1909 and all the messages would stop within 30 days.
"Even I had forwarded a message to 1909 from my phone, I didn't get any confirmation message but they send me this message, "Are you sure you want activation request for START-1 to be processed? Send YES or NO to 1909", a customer Rajinder Singh said, adding that when he again sent YES, the reply was, "Thank You, your request is being processed. Unique Registration number will be sent to you within 24 hours".
He further said that they would forward the Unique Registration number after 24 hours and after that even if your request would be accepted, they would take atlest 30 days to stop these messages.
"I had not requested the BSNL to send me such messages and when I didn't want such messages, they are forcing me to accept such messages for 30 more days, which is open deceit on part of BSNL", the customer said.
Another customer Ritika Kalsotra said that it was beyond her imagination as how some school owners got her phone number and started sending messages for admission. "Whenever I go for shopping at a branded showroom, they sought phone number and despite objections regarding sending messages, they continue to send some offer messages", Ritika said, adding that there must be some simple options for the customers to get these unwanted services cancelled but it was unfortunate that despite repeatedly taken up the issue with BSNL about vulgar messages, it continue to harass new customers by sending them atleast 10-15 messages routinely.
